余市YOICHI
Map of Japan Overlay Image

Yoichi is located at the base of the Shakotan Peninsula in western Hokkaido, enjoying a mild and temperate climate warmed by the Tsushima Current. The name “Yoichi” is said to derive from an Ainu word meaning “a place with hot springs,” reflecting the region’s deep, long-standing connection to onsen culture. Blessed by both land and sea, Yoichi has long been a place where human life and nature have thrived together, with human settlements dating back more than 1,500 years. In the late 19th century Meiji era, apple and other fruit cultivation took root, and today, the area is recognized as one of Hokkaido’s leading wine regions. Beyond its vineyards lie panoramic views of the sea, dramatic cliffs carved by waves, and traces of history in ancient caves and ruins. This rich landscape, where land and sea intertwine, awakens the senses and embodies the enduring spirit of Yoichi’s natural and cultural heritage.
